The Friends of Adam Smith was established in November 2000 by the Board of Directors of the Business Industry Political Action Committee (BIPAC) along with many of its members.

Charged to research and promote the historical and relevant link between politics, public policy and economic freedom, the Friends of Adam Smith will highlight the role of business and business leadership in both the private sector and in government.

The Friends of Adam Smith foundation will also pursue related efforts that seek to highlight the positive contributions of business and business leaders to the development of good government and lasting prosperity.

The Adam Smith Award and its dinner emphasize the continued importance of free enterprise in our society. These annual awards recognize one business leader and one public official whose life work epitomizes a commitment to the concepts and beliefs espoused by Adam Smith. More than 500 prominent national business and political leaders are exposed to this message and the testimonials provided by the recipients of this now prestigious award. It is the objective of our awards program to instill discussions of free market capitalism into the public and policy discourse at the highest levels through the sustained and increased prominence of the Adam Smith Award.
